"Photonics Days Jena 2021": Register now for the career and networking event with Nobel Prize winner Prof. Reinhard Genzel

With the "Photonics Days Jena", the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF and the Max Planck School of Photonics are once again inviting students and doctoral candidates to their international career and networking event from September 29 to 30, 2021. Also on the guest list: Physics Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Reinhard Genzel. The deadline for registration is September 15. Participation is free of charge

In order to promote young talents and thus innovations in the fields of optics and photonics, Fraunhofer IOF together with the Graduate School Max Planck School of Photonics is again hosting the "Photonics Days Jena" this year: an international networking and career event for students and doctoral candidates.

From September 29 to 30, the organizers invite you to network with an international community and representatives of renowned companies at this hybrid event. In addition to the professional exchange, the focus will be on career orientation and the provision of valuable contacts for one's own professional career. The acquisition of scientific skills is not neglected either.

#create: Get active - with Makeathon, workshops and roundtable discussion with Nobel Prize winner Prof. Genzel

According to the motto #create, a varied program awaits participants on the first day of the event. The motto is: Get active and participate! Pitch training is on the agenda, as well as a workshop on visualizing scientific data. Various lectures will also discuss photonic future markets, including biophotonics, the latest quantum technologies, and EUV lithography. This way, attractive fields of work and research of the future will be presented to students. A Makeathon, meanwhile, invites them to get creative together and implement a small tech project across virtual and national borders. (Please note: Due to internal preparations, registration for the Makeathon is already required until August 15.)

A special highlight will be the keynote "A 40-Year Journey" by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Genzel followed by a talk. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the 2020 Nobel Prize winner in Physics. The keynote takes place in cooperation with the "Noble Talk", organized by Beutenberg-Campus Jena e.V.

The presentation of the "Applied Photonics Award", Fraunhofer IOF's young talent award for innovative final theses, as well as a virtual evening program with electronic music and cocktails will round off the first day of the event in an atmospheric way.

#connect: Shaping your own career with strong partners

The second day of the event will again focus on individual career planning. Workshops and sessions will provide advice on topics such as career planning, work-life balance and setting up a business. Throughout the day, a career fair will also offer the opportunity to talk to established companies in the optics and photonics industry to find out about opportunities for internships, theses, or specific job offers. The fair is organized in cooperation with The Optical Society (OSA). A joint yoga workout in the morning and an online escape game in the evening ensure that fun is not neglected in all the "big" career questions.
