Master and PhD with the MPSP

The Max Planck School of Photonics (MPSP), led by Fraunhofer IOF, offers a unique doctoral program (incl. Master) for young researchers in the field of photonics.

Research for the real world is the central task of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

The non-profit research organization founded in 1949 carries out applied research for the benefit of business and society.

In Germany, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft currently runs 74 institutes and research facilities. 28,000 employees, predominantly with a scientific or engineering background, work with an annual research budget of € 2.8 billion.

Photonics - the industry of the future

Photonics is supposed to make many things faster - such as computers - and make some things possible in the first place - such as welding aluminium with laser beams for car bodies. This is why photonics is regarded as a technology of the future and is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with its own Agenda Photonik 2020.

Solving future issues …

The Fraunhofer IOF carries out applied research in the field of optical system technology on the direct commission of industry and as part of publicly funded joint projects.

The challenge is to develop innovative optical systems to control light, from its generation to its application in the cutting-edge fields of energy and the environment, information and communication, health and medical technology, and safety and mobility.

We welcome dedicated scientists, engineers and technologists at all times and offer an optimum research and working environment with an outstanding technological infrastructure.

TOP Employer 2021

The consulting firm Universum asked 16,600 young professionals and 53,050 students which employer they would most like to work for. In 2021, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft ranked 6th among young professionals and 3rd among students as an attractive employer in the natural sciences.

Most attractive
employer in Germany

In 2019, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft again ranked first among the most attractive employers in Germany. This was the result of the study "Randstad Employer Brand Research" with 6,000 interviewed employees and job seekers in Germany. The study evaluated a total of 10 factors such as attractive education and training opportunities, and future prospects.

HR Excellence in Research

Fraunhofer is the second applied research institute in Germany to carry the "HR Excellence in Research" logo. In December 2017, the European Commission awarded the logo to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in recognition of Fraunhofer's outstanding integrated human resources management.
