Fraunhofer IOF at IAA MOBILITY 2025

IAA MOBILITY Munich | September 9–12,  2025

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF shapes future technologies in the field of mobility – from high-precision optical system technology to advanced imaging and sensor solutions.

At this year's IAA MOBILITY in Munich, our institute will present its latest developments in the field of mobility with a wide range of exhibits. This year, the focus will be on increasing transportation safety, among other things through groundbreaking technologies such as a projecting turn signal, an infrared camera for autonomous driving, and a novel 3D sensor for crash tests.

Visit us from September 9 to 12 at the IAA Summit in Hall A2, status C10 and find out how research at Fraunhofer IOF is making the world of mobility safer and more efficient. Our colleagues look forward to talking to you in person.

Fraunhofer IOF at IAA 25

Discover the diversity of photonics research for mobility and automation

At the IAA MOBILITY 2025, you will see representative exhibits of Fraunhofer IOF showcasing the breadth of our research in the field of individual mobility and innovative lighting systems for the automotive industry.

Infrared camera for greater safety in autonomous driving

A team from Fraunhofer IOF has developed a thermal imaging camera for road traffic applications, which will be presented at IAA MOBILITY 2025. The result is a novel infrared camera that operates in the wavelength range of 8 to 14 micrometers - precisely the same range in which thermal radiation emitted by humans is found, both day and night. Additionally, the researchers have succeeded in realizing this technology in a particularly cost-effective yet powerful manner.

Exterior lighting / Indicators

By using an LED array and precisely controlling channel cross-talk, adaptive driving beam (ADB) systems achieve high performance and safety on the road. Fraunhofer IOF’s innovative solid-state lighting system enables the realization of an adaptive high beam and an efficient low beam. Both lighting units can be seamlessly integrated into a vehicle’s design language with a high degree of freedom while occupying minimal space. To be seen at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich.

Dynamic projected turn signal for increased road safety

Researchers at Fraunhofer IOF have developed a dynamic indicator light that guarantees maximum visibility in a compact form, even under daylight conditions. The projected turn signal achieves an illuminance of over seven thousand lux with a size of just 35 x 35 x 55 millimeters. The blinker will be presented at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich.

goCRASH3D – The 3D Sensor that survives the Crash Test

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF has been developing systems for the high-speed capture of 3D data for many years. With goCRASH3D, the Jena team is presenting a new system that records 3D data during crash tests inside the test vehicle. It shows the deformation and movement of vehicle components during a collision in a way that was previously not possible or only possible to a limited extent. goCRASH3D will be exhibited at the IAA MOBILITY 2025 trade fair.
